CISC 1100: Structures of Computer Science
Announcements
August 28, 2013 5:20pm There was some inaccurate
information in the syllabus. Please note the publication date on our
class textbook (Fundamentals of discrete structures) is 2012,
copyright date is 2013. Also, while the book is available at the
Fordham bookstore, it may be available for purchase elsewhere as
well. Please do get a copy of the book from 2012/2013, and not
from 2010.
September 2, 2013 3:15pm Due to several Jewish holidays, I will
be unavailable by e-mail for three 3-day periods during the month of
September. (I also will be out of my office, but my class office hours
do not fall during the times listed below.) The periods I am offline
are:
- Wednesday, September 4 around 5pm to Saturday, September 7 around 10pm
- Wednesday, September 18 around 5pm to Saturday, September 21 around 10pm
- Wednesday, September 25 around 5pm to Saturday, September 28 around 10pm
I will reply to any e-mails sent when I am offline after I get back online.

September 17, 2013 12:10pm Exam 1 will be held on Wednesday, October 9, covering sets and sequences.

October 3, 2013 12:40pm Below are exam 1 practice questions!
Questions are randomly color-coded. I recommend trying to answer one
set of colored questions first (for example, red questions), review
the answers to those questions, and then move on to another set of
colored questions (for example, green).
Added October 6, 2013 1:30am One or two errors were
discovered in each of the three colored answer keys. The corrected
answer keys are now included below, with the previously listed error
shown crossed out. I apologize for the errors!

- 72-above: "A range," 5 students

October 23, 2013 4:25pm On Monday, October 28, class will meet in the computer lab in LL 812. We will be learning to use the Alice programming environment. A handout introducing the concepts in Alice programming is available here.
November 4, 2013 4:55pm On Wednesday, November 6, class will meet in the computer lab in LL 812. We will be learning more about Alice, using this handout.
