Overview: Develop an understanding of the role of operating systems in managing computer resources. Topics will include: process management, memory management, file management and security.

Prerequisites: CISC3593 Computer Organization or equivalent.

We will make extensive use of the class WWW site and Blackboard. All lab assignments are (only) posted on this site. The site is full of lots of useful information and class notes.

Class discussion forum: We are going to try using Blackboard discussion forums for our online discussions and Q&A.

  • Class Notes: Class notes (highly recommended) are posted on the class WWW site. I suggest you print them out and bring them to class, and you can annotate them. Disclaimer: I often make updates to them up until using them, often removing unnecessary content or adding clarifications.
