WISDM
Project: Relevant Hardware Information
This web page discusses information about the hardware that is relevant to the
WISDM project.
Android Cell Phones
Our platform will initially be based on cell phones running the Android
operating system. While the various Android cell phones will largely share
common capabilities (at least the ones that we rely on for this project), there
may be some differences. Below we list some of the Android phones.
-
The HTC Hero
is the initial phone that we will rely of for most of our development and
testing. This phone currently runs Android 1.5. It is relatively
state-of-the-art but may lack some of the advanced features of the Nexus One,
sold by Google. The HTC hero is sold by Sprint and requires a calling plan.
The Hero contains the following sensors:
The Hero does not have a light sensor or a proximity sensor.
-
The Nexus One phone is available
directly from Google and can be purchased "unlocked" without a cell phone
plan. It runs Android version 2.1. The Nexus One has the following sensors:
- accelerometer
- digital compasss
- GPS
- camera
- microphone
- light sensor
- proximity sensor
